Inspire Planning Solutions’ expertise has helped secure permission for a CrossFit gym on the Wear Industrial Estate. In addition to justifying the loss of employment land, we were tasked with undertaking a ‘Sequential Site Assessment’ as the intended use – like other leisure facilities – are identified as a ‘main town centre uses’ by the National Planning Policy Framework, which requires an out of centre location of a site to be justified.
Given our experience on a wide range of retail, leisure, and commercial developments, and having secured numerous consents for similar gyms across England, we undertook an extensive search of properties and were able to demonstrate that none were ‘available, suitable or viable’. The Council agreed that there were no sequentially preferable sites, paving the way for the application to be approved!
Now all that remains is for you to try out the not so simple group workouts, including a pull up rig, gymnastic rings, and rope climbs. Let’s hope shredding the pounds is as easy for us as gaining the planning permission!
