Huddersfield – Erection of Smoking Shelter

Development that is proposed in a conservation area demands careful consideration and a more concerted effort than in other areas. This is to ensure that historical features are preserved or enhanced.

The proposal was to erect a smoking shelter on the first floor of the building, to be located above an extension. Inspire Planning Solutions Ltd set forth in producing a Heritage Statement to show why this development should be permitted. Our report highlighted the difference in the architectural and historical significance of the rear compared to that of the front elevation. The statement confirmed that the development would be undertaken sensitively using an appropriate design, and would be of the right scale, and utilise the right materials. Our report provided assurance that the special interest would be maintained and the proposal in actual fact was an enhancement to the current situation. Consequently, and as a result of the careful consideration of the conservation area, planning permission was successfully obtained from the Council.
